December 2, 2011

I have propped up my eyelids with chopsticks so that I can let you all know that we've made it!
We arrived at midnight last night after a blessedly uneventful 13 hour flight. We slept about 4 1/2 hours and then enjoyed a blustery, gray, snowy day touring around Beijing. Felt like home! After clambering up the Great Wall (which really is pretty great) we admired the artistry at the cloisonné factory (Google it), shucked an oyster at the pearl place (it had about 20 pearls in it!) and visited the jade market (we left there a little jaded...)
Meals today consisted of authentic Chinese food such as fried milk, duck meatballs (that were described by a certain "food critic" as being "chalky"), numerous unidentifiable meat items, something that may or may not have been tofu, and, everyone's favorite, rice.
We are here with four other adopting families including our kindred friends the Lewises. We are full of thankfulness to God for getting us safely this far and for continuing to bless us in our endeavors here.
I must now remove the chopsticks lest my face gets stuck this way and attempt to reset my body clock.
More later.

  1. Thanks for staying awake for all of us here in the States. Did you actually climb those incredibly steep steps at the Wall?
